Daily Question for 3/31

From Tim Walker aka @Twalk:

Speaking as realistically (i.e. not as a homer) as you can, what record do you project for the Sox this year?

96-66 - the win the AL East by 2 games over Yanks who get Wild Card. Rays finish 3 back (1 out of WC race).

Ugh, I'm just so not sure of the rotation and the lineup, I'd have to say 93 wins, which I don't think gets them the division but perhaps gets them the WC.

Don't forget our Austin Red Sox Opening Day party!! http://twtvite.com/b58vs2

90-72 - since you are not asking, I won;t say what place I project. The TB DishRags and the MFYs could have a shot at the division.

I think they break into the low 90s, higher if it turns out Wake really can't handle the Rays anymore and instead of pulling a Grady, one of the kids or this year's gimp gets a fair shot at success.

99 and 63 cuz 666 just doesn't look right to me Aaron. Haha. The rookies on the Sox have more experience and provide more depth and Tech is back providing consistent leadership for the pitchers and the team.

Guys (Jim excepted). You have seen the Sox pitching staff, right? It's freakin' awesome. And their lineup isn't that different than last year. I know that Ortiz and Lowell are question marks but still.

Two things:
1) age will be the Yanks Achilles heal
2) sophomore slump sets in w/ Rays

If they put Jason Bay into the Sullivan Tire ads and Ramirez into Olympia Sports, then I go 100. Look what it did for Pedroia and Masterson. I dub this the "NESN local ad effect," opposite the SI cover curse.

I don't have a specific number in mind necessarily, but low 90's sounds about right for the BoSox. I think between Boston, Tampa Bay and the Yankees, this is going to be an absolutely fascinating season in the AL East. I can't wait to see how it plays out.

It could go so many ways depending on injuries and the effects of age. My feeling is that Tampa Bay caught lightning in a bottle last ear and will probably finish out of it. Boston and New York will make it, but I think it's too close to call who takes the flag.

I'll be blogging more extensively about it in the next few days, but long story short, I think we have the best staff in the game. Offensively, if the real Mike Lowell and David Ortiz show up, it puts us in FAR better shape. I don't think that either one of those guys is assured of performing to expectations. In fact, my gut says it's more likely than not that neither is going to rake consistently this year. Two words for each of those guys:

Lowell: nagging injury.

Ortiz: Mo Vaughn.

ok - first i'll answer Tim's question and then post a question for 4/1.

I'm going to agree with Aaron - the pitching staff is scary. Even without monster years from anyone they're going to win high 80's.

I think we're going to see a couple guys light it up and end up with 98 wins.

There, I said it.
