- The Glory of Their Times, by Lawrence Ritter
- Ball Four, by Jim Bouton

- The Bill James Historical Abstract of Baseball (This is a book to put on the nightstand and graze from.)
- The Science of Hitting, by Ted Williams
- Nine Innings, by Daniel Okrent
- Baseball's Great Experiment: Jackie Robinson and His Legacy, by Jules Tygiel (*Outstanding* social history treatment of baseball’s integration.)
And from Kyle Flaherty:

With the start of the season, comes new baseball books. I am looking forward to reading:
As They See'Em - a fan's travels in the land of umpiring by Bruce Weber.
Forever Blue : the true story of Walter O'Malley, baseball's most controversial owner, and the Dodgers of Brooklyn and Los Angeles by Michael D'Antonio.
and, you guys will love this one:
Becoming Manny: Inside the Life of Baseball's Most Enigmatic Slugger by Jean Rhodes, Shawn Boburg, and Leigh Montville
I recently read Joe Torre's book, The Yankee Years, which true to form sucked, although it was funny to read about A-Fraud.
